MANILA, April 17 -- The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is targeting the completion of the Davao International Airport runway repair by the first week of May, instead of May 31.

The runway asphalt overlay project that includes the removal of a 2-inch thick damaged asphalt pavement is now 36.67 percent complete, according to CAAP.

"We are expediting the completion of the project. We ask for understanding from affected passengers because the runway really needs to be repaired, and we cannot afford to risk damaging it, which could pose safety concerns." CAAP-Davao Area Manager Rex Obcena said in a news release Wednesday.
