Manila, Dec. 30 -- Police in Central Luzon on Tuesday reiterated a strict one-strike policy against indiscriminate firing as the region prepares for the New Year celebrations.

Regional police director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Penones Jr. said reckless gunfire endangers lives and has no place in the professional force.

"The use of firearms in a reckless manner endangers lives and undermines public trust. Any act of indiscriminate firing will be dealt with decisively," Penones said in a statement.

Under the policy, any officer found guilty faces immediate dismissal and criminal charges with no warning. Unit commanders also bear responsibility and must ensure strict supervision of their personnel.
