Manila, April 6 -- Candidates in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), as well as in Sulu province, have committed to promote honest and peaceful elections on May 12.

"The manifestation of their shared commitment was reinforced by the signing of a peace covenant, where candidates pledged to uphold non-violence, respect the democratic process, and engage in fair and transparent elections," Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac, commander of the Area Police Command in Western Mindanao, said in a statement over the weekend.

The signing of the peace covenant, which was held in Zamboanga City following a candidates forum, was hosted by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
