Manila, April 4 -- The City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) said Friday not a single rabies case was recorded here in 2024, owing to their massive vaccination drive that covered at least 40,176 cats and dogs.

Dr. Silardo Bested, CVAO head, said in a phone interview that the number of vaccinated animals exceeded their target for the year by 176 animals.

"Every animal vaccinated is important. It could make the difference if the unvaccinated is the one that spreads the virus and causes rabies bites," he said.

He said the city government has been allotting funds for anti-rabies vaccines for animals to ensure the protection of humans in case of bites.
