Legazpi City, Jan. 5 -- Several local government units (LGUs) in Albay suspended face-to-face classes on Monday due to heavy rains brought by a shear line and a gale warning.
Classes at all levels, both in public and private schools, were suspended in the towns of Malilipot, Malinao, Tiwi, Bacacay, Sto. Domingo, and in Tabaco City.
Tiwi Mayor Jose Morel Climaco said the prolonged rains could trigger localized flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in highly susceptible communities.
He advised schools to shift to alternative modes of teaching and learning.
The mayor also urged residents to avoid crossing swollen rivers and streams and to take necessary safety precautions.
