Manila, Sept. 2 -- The annual three-month closed fishing season in the Davao Gulf ended on Monday, but the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said the affected fisherfolk were given adequate assistance during the period.

The temporary halt, which covered the catch of small pelagic fish, was implemented from June 1 to Aug. 31, and lifted on Sept. 1.

BFAR 11 (Davao Region) Director Relly Garcia said in a statement Tuesday that it coordinated with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Department of Labor and Employment to provide assistance.
