Manila, Oct. 19 -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has denounced what it called "false and misleading" social media posts claiming President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. had threatened to abolish military pensions.

In a strongly worded statement Saturday, the military said there is no such directive, statement or policy from the President or any government agency suggesting the removal of military retirement benefits.

"This claim is baseless, malicious and intended to mislead," the AFP said, adding that the Marcos administration has "consistently expressed its fullest support for our men and women in uniform, including the protection and sustainability of their pension and benefits."
