BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 19 -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 13 (Caraga Region) issued a local advisory Thursday afternoon, warning residents of paralytic shellfish toxins (PST) detected in shellfish samples collected at Litalit Bay in San Benito, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

The BFAR-13 reported that samples taken from the bay were tested using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA).

"As a precautionary measure and to protect the lives of residents and the fishing industry in the area, we urge the public to refrain from collecting, selling, and consuming all types of shellfish and Acetes sp. known as 'alamang' from Litalit Bay," the BFAR-13 said.
