Manila, March 28 -- The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Friday transferred 300 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan.

"They were transferred as part of our effort to decongest NBP and to support the manpower needs of IPPF in its agricultural project," BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said in a statement.

"This brings to 10, 227 the total number of PDLs from NBP transferred to various Operating Prison and Penal Farm (OPPFs)."

He said the inmates, all from the NBP Medium Security Camp, were transported in 10 commercial buses to the Port of Manila, where they boarded a vessel to Puerto Princesa City.
