Manila, Jan. 13 -- Two people were arrested for allegedly trying to bribe police officers with PHP1 million following the interception of PHP20 million worth of illegal cigarettes in Cebu.
According to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday, the two were arrested during an entrapment operation on Sunday in Santander municipality.
It said the two suspects approached authorities with their bribe offer, a day after 200 boxes of illegal ORIS cigarettes valued at approximately PHP20 million were seized at a checkpoint.
Verification confirmed that the ORIS brand is not legally registered for sale in the Philippines.
Seized from the two suspects were the PHP1 million cash, a sports utility vehicle, and smartphones.
