Manila, Sept. 21 -- Some 11 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases of the 43 reported Sunday were from the city's abattoir.

Public Information Office chief Aileen Refuerzo, in its advisory at 7:20 pm Sunday, said the city's slaughterhouse area now has a total of 38 cases prompting Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong to place some purok (sub-villages) under a hard lockdown for 14 days.

These areas include three sub-villages near the slaughterhouse, Lourdes Extension and Barangay Ferdinand.

Areas under hard lockdown prevent residents from going out of their houses.

Magalong earlier said the expected surge in the number of Covid-19 cases is a result of aggressive contact tracing and expanded testing activities.
