Manila, Feb. 18 -- Some 102 former rebels from Samar provinces received PHP4.56 million in financial assistance from their respective provincial governments, the Philippine Army reported Tuesday.

Of the total, 74 surrenderers are from Samar or were active in insurgency activities in Samar, and 28 are from Northern Samar province.

The Samar provincial government released PHP3.44 million in financial aid while the Northern Samar provincial government handed PHP1.12 million to former rebels.

The recipients are from the towns of Basey, Calbiga, Hinabangan, Jiabong, Matuguinao, Motiong, Marabut, Pinabacdao, Paranas, San Jorge, and Villareal in Samar; Dolores in Eastern Samar; and Las Navas in Northern Samar.
