Manila, May 13 -- Political newbie Pamela Baricuatro of PDP-Laban was officially proclaimed as the second woman and the 28th governor of Cebu province on Tuesday, defeating incumbent Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Baricuatro garnered 1,107,924 votes against Garcia's 765,051 votes.
"Thank you. We did it!" she told her supporters.
Her proclamation was delayed for almost six hours after the Commission on Elections-Central Visayas (Comelec 7) waited for the transmission of results from a clustered precinct in Pinamungajan town, western coast of Cebu province.
A lady lawyer representing Garcia tried to seek suspension of the proclamation through a petition, citing their pending petition to disqualify Baricuatro as a nuisance candidate.
