Manila, Aug. 13 -- Typhoon Gorio is about to make landfall over Southern Taiwan, the state weather bureau said in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Wednesday.

The typhoon was located 160 km. north of Itbayat, Batanes as of 10 a.m.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Gorio intensified further, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 215 kph.

Signal No. 2 is still hoisted in Itbayat where gale-force winds will prevail.

Batanes will also continue to experience heavy rains, PAGASA added.

The rest of Batanes is still under signal No. 1 and will experience strong winds.
