France, March 26 -- Water consumers in Fiji are expected to join the new global 'smart water' project - if the trial in the greater Suva area is successful.

The smart metre project is a modern, innovative and efficient water distribution service that reads customer's actual water consumption four times a day and transmits the information to an online platform that provides real time consumption to customers.

Owned by renowned French company Suez, the smart metre technology is currently being trialed in the two French overseas territories in the Pacific - New Caledonia and French Polynesia.
