Fiji, Oct. 1 -- Marshall Islands top diplomat at the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Gerald M. Zackios is the proposed Micronesian candidate for the post of Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Ambassador Zackios has received the full backing of the leaders of the five Micronesian countries of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Palau.

Presidents of the five sovereign Micronesian countries, David W. Panuelo (FSM), Taneti Maamau (Kiribati), Tony Remengesau (Palau), Hilda C. Heine (Marshall Islands) and Lionel Aingimea (Nauru) signed a joint letter addressed to the Pacific Islands Forum Chair nominating Ambassador Zackios.
