A youth remains stranded on an islet in the middle of the Subarnarekha River in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district after the river swelled due to heavy rainfall upstream in Jharkhand.
According to sources, the incident occurred near Merumatha village under Saraskana block in the district, where a rising water level has cut off access to the mainland.
The youth had been staying on the islet for cattle grazing and fishing. As the river level rose suddenly, he got stranded. Strong currents and intense hot conditions have created hurdles in the ongoing rescue efforts, sources added.
