Bhubaneswar, Nov. 24 -- A youth allegedly attempted to rape a five-year-old girl by luring her with money in Sibaramapur village under Talcher police station in Odisha's Angul district on Sunday.

However, locals caught the accused and thrashed him. The girl's family members later handed him over to the police.

The accused was identified as Ashok Behera, a resident of Sibaramapur village. Reports stated that Behera brought labourers from different places and engaged them in household work.

On the day of the incident, Behera allegedly lured the daughter of a labourer from Keonjhar district and took her to a pump house situated behind the temple in the village.
