Odisha's rivers are expected to witness a surge in water levels due to intense rainfall. The Water Resources Department issued a high alert on Friday, warning officials and residents in low-lying areas about possible flooding.
According to official sources, as many as 43 blocks across 15 districts have received over 50 millimetres of rainfall in the last 24 hours, leading to increased river inflows. The Hirakud Dam is currently discharging water through 12 sluice gates, with a decision pending on opening more gates if the situation worsens.
