Bhubaneswar, Dec. 5 -- A student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla has been arrested on charges of assaulting a female student, police said on Thursday. The accused was taken into custody after a complaint was lodged at the Burla police station alleging that he had physically assaulted the victim.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the student. His bail plea was rejected, following which he was remanded to judicial custody and sent to Sambalpur Circle Jail.

The University authorities had earlier suspended the student in connection with the incident. The matter has now been handed over to the Internal Complaints Committee for further inquiry.
