Koraput, March 1 -- The Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Orissa, Sachidananda Mohanty, has resigned from his post citing personal reason.

The information regarding Mohanty's resignation came through a press statement. As per reports, Mohanty joined as Vice-Chancellor of the university in the year 2015.

"He was recently nominated as a member for the Commission on Education for UNESCO by the President of India. He is also a member of the Governing Board of the Auroville Foundation, administered by the Ministry of the Human Resources Development, (MHRD) Government of India," as per the website of the university.

According to sources, for the first time in the history of the university, a VC has stepped down from his post.
