In a tragic turn of events, a retired teacher went missing while attempting to rescue his nephew who drowned in the Mahanadi river near the Tirtol bridge in Jagatsinghpur district. The heart-wrenching incident occurred while the family was performing a 'Dashaha' ritual of the victim's mother on Sunday.
The missing person has been identified as Sampad Jena while the deceased has been identified as Kanha Jena (Sampad's nephew).
As per reports, the rituals were underway along the riverbank when Kanha Jena from Nagapura village under Kolar Panchayat accidentally slipped and was pulled into the deep water.
