Surrendered Maoist accuses Odisha government of going back on promises
Bhubaneswar, March 26 -- A Maoist couple, who had surrendered in 2007, on Saturday alleged that the government has reneged on the promises it made to them at the time of surrender.
Surayam Majhi and his wife Pabitra, residents of Birikote village under Mohana block in Gajapati district, were Maoist cadres. In 2007, they had surrendered to join the mainstream of the society.
Then, they were given a patch of land in front of Birikote Panchayat office under the government's Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy. Pabitra was also appointed as the Anganwadi worker.
Now, Surayam alleged that the government has taken away the land given to him. He came to know about this when he got his land measured for construction purposes.
