Bhubaneswar, Feb. 15 -- At least eight passengers were seriously injured after a government bus met with an accident at the Salur bypass in Odisha's Malkangiri district in the early hours of Sunday.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 3 am when the bus was travelling from MV-79 to Visakhapatnam. A total of 31 persons were on board, including 29 passengers, the driver and the bus staff.

Preliminary information suggests that the accident took place after the steering of the bus reportedly got locked.

It is suspected that the vehicle, which was allegedly travelling at high speed, met with the accident after descending a ghat road and attempting to take a U-turn, when the steering got locked.
