A shark weighing nearly two quintals was caught in the fishermen's net in the sea adjoining Digha on Thursday. The rare catch drew significant attention as such fish are usually caught only twice or thrice a year. The shark was later taken to the Mohana International Fish Landing Centre in West Bengal for sale.

Nearly five to six pharmaceutical companies from West Bengal arrived to bid for the shark, as its various parts are used in developing medicines for major health ailments. Different sections of the fish are considered to have medicinal value, which has led to strong demand in the market.
