Bhubaneswar, Oct. 29 -- Bhubaneswar: Former Director of Town Planning and the first Chief Town Planner of Odisha, Surendra Behera passed away at the age of 68 in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

Behera was a resident of Balanga village under the district of Puri.

An alumnus of Ravenshaw College and Utkal University, Behera had obtained his Masters Degree in Regional Planning from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 1980. He had also got a Post Graduate Certificate in Urban and Regional Planning from the Technical University of Szczecin, Poland, in 1984.

In his tenure spanning 33 years, from 1977 to 2010, he held various positions in the Directorate of Town Planning in Bhubaneswar.
