Bhubaneswar, May 17 -- Bhubaneswar: Even as the single-day Covid case spike has been witnessing ups and downs for the last few days in Odisha, a top health official observed that the overall situation is stable in the State as the daily cases are plataeuing between 10,000 and 12,000 for the last few days.

Public Health director Dr Niranjan Mishra said the number of infection has declined slightly. "The situation is stable now. The daily count is hovering between 10,000 and 12,000," he added.

He further said the state-wide lockdown was a need of the hour to check the increasing trend of transmission. "The impact of the lockdown can be felt between two and eight weeks. The infection will also decrease subsequently," he pointed out.
