Bhubaneswar, Oct. 14 -- Widespread anger has engulfed Durgapur as protests intensify against the West Bengal government and its Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, following the alleged gangrape of an Odia medical student last Friday.

Reports stated that public outrage deepened after Banerjee's controversial statement that thegirl should not have gone out at night.

The remarks, made on Saturday, have been condemned as deeply insensitive and victim-blaming from several leaders, including Odisha Deputy CM Pravati Parida, who termed it as 'shameful,' particularly as it came from a woman leader.
