NGT Slaps Rs 2 Crore Fine On JSPL For Damages To Nandira River In Angul
Bhubaneswar, Nov. 28 -- The eastern Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Kolkata has slapped a fine of Rs 2 crore on Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), Angul as environmental compensation for damaging the ecology of Nandira River by filling it with earth and undertaking illegal construction on it.
The petitioner, Alekha Chandra Tripathy, a resident of Cuttack, had alleged that JSPL has unauthorisedly usurped Nandira River in Angul district in connivance with the State Authorities located at Bhubaneswar and has filled up the river with earth thereby completely obliterating the river.
