Bhubaneswar, Nov. 16 -- A major fire gutted a house in Khallikote under Odisha's Ganjam district in the early hours of Saturday, reducing property worth several lakhs to ashes. The incident took place at Dharakot Sahi around 3 am.

The blaze broke out at the residence of Dillip Khuntia. While the exact cause is yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports point to a suspected short circuit. Two rooms were completely destroyed in the fire, engulfing household items, including a refrigerator, cooler, important documents, and cash.

Sources said cash amounting to several lakhs and gold ornaments kept for the daughter's wedding were also reduced to ashes in the mishap. Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported.
