Bhubaneswar, May 22 -- A low-pressure area has reportedly been formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is likely to concentrate into a depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by the mornings of May 24, latest weather reports said.

As per reports, there are chances that the depression will trigger heavy rainfall and also intensify into a cyclone, the first cyclone during this pre-monsoon season.

"The depression is expected to intensify into a cyclone with chances of further intensification. If the cyclone moves towards the Indian coast, it will support monsoon and if it moves towards Myanmar then it will be a spoiler and can negatively impact monsoon onset," a HT report said.
