Bhubaneswar, Dec. 23 -- In an unfortunate turn of events, a wild elephant that was in critical condition after allegedly consuming poisoned food died in the Baripada Forest Division. The elephant was earlier spotted roaming in a blood-soaked condition within the forest area, drawing concern among forest officials and locals.

The animal's tongue was reportedly torn, leaving it unable to drink water or consume food, which severely worsened its condition.

According to forest officials, the elephant was first seen on December 13, moving from the Nilagiri area of Balasore district into the Betanati-Baisinga region under the Baripada Forest Division. Its injury and bleeding led to allegations that poison had been mixed into its food.
