Starting October 1, 2025, the Ministry of Railways will enforce a new rule to curb misuse of online bookings. During the first 15 minutes after general reservations open on the IRCTC website or app, only Aadhaar-authenticated users will be allowed to book reserved general tickets.
According to the ministry, the move aims to ensure that the reservation system benefits genuine passengers rather than being cornered by touts or agents. A similar restriction has been in place for Tatkal bookings, and officials said the success of that step prompted its extension to general reservations.
