Bhubaneswar, Jan. 10 -- The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu till January 11. According to weather reports, a deep depression is expected to cross Sri Lanka by January 10 afternoon.

In view of the weather conditions, yellow and orange alerts has been issued in several regions of the state. Thiruvarur, Karaikal, and Nagapattinum are under orange alert, while Chennai, Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Madurai and Thiruchirapalli are under yellow alert.

"The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph during the past 6 hours, and lay centred at 2330 hours IST of yesterday, the 9th January, 2026, over the same region," IMD posted on X. ...
