Indian Premier League (IPL) fans will have to dig deeper into their pockets next season, with the government raising the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on match tickets from 28% to 40%. The Ministry of Finance, in a notification issued on Wednesday, said admission to "casinos, race clubs or sporting events like the IPL" would now attract the higher tax slab, with Input Tax Credit (ITC) available.
The hike means an IPL ticket with a base price of Rs 500, which earlier cost Rs 640 after 28% GST, will now be priced at Rs 700 during the 2026 season. The change comes after IPL tickets were reclassified under the 'Luxury Goods' category...
