Bhubaneswar, Feb. 23 -- A farmer was reportedly shot dead on his farm in Fasigan village under Dhenkanal Sadar police station in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The deceased was identified as Gobinda Chandra Nayak.According to reports, Nayak used to sleep in a house on his farm to safeguard his crops and did the same on Saturday. However, at about 3 am unidentified miscreants allegedly approached him and flashed a torchlight.

Upon noticing this, Nayak reacted, prompting the miscreants to open fire. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
