Bhubaneswar, Oct. 17 -- In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer posted as DIG, Ropar Range, Punjab, along with a private individual, in connection with an Rs 8 lakh bribery case. The officer, a 2009-batch IPS, was also allegedly demanding monthly illegal payments from the complainant.

The case was registered on October 16, 2025, after allegations surfaced that the DIG had demanded Rs 8 lakh through a middleman for "settling" an FIR registered against a businessman. The officer was also accused of threatening adverse police action unless monthly illegal payments were made.
