In a devastating incident, a massive fire reduced a family's house and possessions to ashes in Bahu village under Chandbali block of Bhadrak district on Wednesday, destroying valuables worth lakhs and shattering preparations for a daughter's upcoming wedding.
According to sources, the blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit in the two-room house of one Surendra Mallik. Within minutes, the fire engulfed the dwelling along with the kitchen, gutting gold jewellery set aside for the wedding, household furniture, and other valuables.
