Bhubaneswar, Dec. 2 -- A primary school teacher in Harabhanga block of Boudh district is facing disciplinary action after he allegedly reported to duty in an intoxicated state. The Block Education Officer (BEO) has withheld his one day's salary and initiated a departmental inquiry into the matter.

The teacher, identified as Suramani Mallik of Jharakhamana Primary School, had reportedly been arriving at school after consuming alcohol on a daily basis. According to complaints, instead of teaching students, he spent much of his time on his mobile phone. He was also accused of remaining absent from school without informing authorities and functioning according to his own convenience.
