In a move towards sustainable waste management, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to set up a green energy biogas plant at the city's largest retail and wholesale market, the Unit-I haat.
The facility, designed to process up to three tonnes of organic waste daily, will be set up on 3,500 square feet of land to be identified and provided by the civic authority. An agency will be selected to build, operate, and maintain the plant for a period of five years.
The BMC aims to generate electricity from the biogas plant and supply it to the power grid, enhancing the financial viability of the initiative.
