Bhubaneswar, April 18 -- Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar today announced a compensation of Rs 30 lakh for the family of Sanjukta Digal, a poll official who was shot dead by Maoists yesterday.

Digal, a Gram Rojgar Sevak and appointed as a polling supervisor, was shot in the head near Barahala village under Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district by Maoists.

The incident took place when the woman poll official was standing on road after the vehicle, in which she and other election officials were travelling, was parked following a landmine blast by the extremists.

She sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
