India, Nov. 26 -- Union Minister for Tribal Welfare Jual Oram has requested a detailed report from the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) on the deplorable condition of an alternative national highway in Tripura.

The highway, linking Agartala to Kumarghat through Khowai and Kamalpur, was renovated by NHIDCL just a year ago, but locals say many stretches have become extremely unsafe.

The issue drew attention after Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha flagged it with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in July, urging prompt action.
