India, Jan. 1 -- An ambulance carrying a body veered off the road and plunged into a river at Teijangkot village in Manipur's Churachandpur district, killing the driver and the handyman on the spot due to drowning, officials reported on Thursday.

The vehicle, belonging to the Young Mizo Association, was transporting a body from Moreh town to the Churachandpur district headquarters when it met with the tragic accident early Wednesday morning. The driver, identified as Lamlalsang, and the handyman, Jimmy Nengsuanpau, died after the ambulance submerged in the Guin River. Dense fog is suspected to have caused the driver to miss the river crossing point.
