India, Dec. 27 -- A 24-year-old Chakma student from Tripura, identified as Angel Chakma, passed away on December 26 after more than two weeks in critical condition following a knife attack in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
The incident has raised widespread concern over the safety of students from the Northeast in other parts of India.
Angel, an MBA student, was allegedly attacked along with his brother on December 9 after confronting a group of assailants over racial slurs.
According to his younger brother, Michael Chakma, the attackers, reportedly intoxicated, hurled racial abuse at them, calling them "Nepali," "Chinese," "Chinki," and "momos," before stabbing Angel multiple times.
