INDIA, Dec. 5 -- A court in Tripura's Unakoti district has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for abducting and raping a minor girl three years ago.

The ruling was issued on Thursday by Additional District and Sessions Judge Amarendra Kumar Singh, who also ordered the convict to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.

In case of non-payment, he will face an additional two months of imprisonment.

The case dates back to October 25, 2022, when a minor girl from Srinathpur under Irani police station went missing.

Despite extensive searches, her family was unable to trace her.

Investigations later revealed that the accused had abducted the girl and taken her to the Golakpur tea garden, where the assault took place.
