India, Jan. 11 -- The Tripura Congress staged a silent protest on Sunday, demanding the repeal of the VB-G-RAM-G Act, which they say undermines citizens' rights and imposes additional financial burdens on the state.
The protest took place near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Circuit House in Agartala.
Tripura Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha said similar demonstrations were being conducted across all nine districts of the party in the state.
Saha stressed that MNREGA was originally introduced to guarantee 100 days of work and protect public rights.
He alleged that the current government has effectively dismantled the scheme and dishonored Mahatma Gandhi, who symbolizes India's struggle for freedom.
