India, Dec. 15 -- Students of Tezpur University on Monday began a nine-hour hunger strike from 9 am, intensifying their protest against Vice-Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh and demanding his immediate removal over alleged corruption and financial irregularities.

The students announced a complete boycott of academic and administrative activities until the Union Ministry of Education (MoE) issues a formal resolution addressing their demands.

They said the decision to escalate the protest came after repeated peaceful demonstrations failed to draw any response from the Ministry.
