INDIA, Dec. 2 -- A suspected Hill People's Convention (Democratic) [HPC(D)] militant was shot dead in a gunfight with Assam Police late Monday night in the Jinamveil area of Dima Hasao district.

According to police, the incident occurred around 11 pm near Chillei village, under Mahur Police Station. Earlier, at about 10 pm, a group of HPC(D) militants intercepted a vehicle, fired two rounds into the air, and threatened the driver.

Hearing the shots, personnel from a nearby Assam Police Command Battalion camp rushed to the scene.
