India, Jan. 5 -- The Supreme Court on Monday (January 5, 2026) rejected the bail pleas of activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.

The case falls under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and concerns the alleged 'larger conspiracy' behind the February 2020 Delhi riots.

A Bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria emphasized the seriousness of the charges against the two activists, stating they were "on a qualitatively different footing" compared to the other accused.

However, the court allowed five co-accused, Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa Ur Rehman, Mohd. Saleem Khan, and Shadab Ahmad, to be released after distinguishing their roles in the incidents of violence.
