A newstudypublished by researchers from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) reveals the extent of damage caused by the 2023 glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in Sikkim, noting significant changes in water depth, quality, and floodplain structure since the deluge.

The GLOF in October 2023 destroyed a 1,200-megawatt hydropower project and killed 55 people as it came cascading down, marking one of the worst disasters the northeastern Himalayan state had seen in recent times.
